Collaborative Offers Logistics Career Training
The Los Angeles
Community College District, in association with Community Career
Development, Inc., Wilshire-Metro WorkSource Center, and the
Logistics Working Group (LWG), began its fifth Logistics/Goods Movement Training Academy
class on April 28 and will continue through June 6, 2008 at the Wilshire-Metro WorkSource Center.
The academy is offered free of charge
to dislocated/laid-off, unemployed and underemployed individuals
over 18 years of age.

This intensive
5-week training program will provide an overview of the logistics
industry and warehousing, instruction in basic computer skills,
resume and interview workshops, career coaching, and placement
assistance. The specialized, industry-specific curriculum was
developed by faculty from Los Angeles Valley, East Los Angeles, and
Los Angeles City Colleges, in association with Abram Friedman
Occupational Center (LAUSD). Each participant will receive 2-units
of transferable college credit and a Certificate of Completion
endorsed by the City of Los Angeles Workforce Investment Board (WIB).
Because of the career path opportunities in this industry, the
academy encourages the participation of individuals who are
interested in continuing education and college-level coursework.

The
logistics/goods movement industry is one of the fastest growing in
the nation, impacting the economy and quality of life throughout the
state of California. Logistics occupations represent a range of
vocational and professional management careers offering competitive
wages with opportunities for advancement. Positions include
warehouse worker, truck driver, forklift operator, package and
freight handler, inventory clerk, welder, as well as administrative,
supervisory and management positions.
